Britain has provided many of its traditions and systems to the world and this is something that should be continued. It should become an exhibition to the world as a non-aggressive (in an international sense), a more equal society by reducing the deficit of wealth between the richest and poorest of society.
Positive Migration
Simply ‘talking tough’ on migration is ineffective at dealing with public concerns and constrains the potential for policy solution. Jill Rutter, Head of Policy and Communications at Refugee and Migrant Justice argues only a new and more positive narrative from the Left about migration can generate the political momentum for policy changes.
‘OneMoreDrone’
Being on the Left rather than Right means a belief in a free democratic society where the majority are in the driving seat and are able to make decisions over their own lives. A belief that central institutions of society should be run together cooperatively and democratically rather than through rigid and fundamentally unfair hierarchical systems which keep people trapped, scared and oppressed.

I want a society where, very simply, there is less inequality. By that I mean that it would be impossible for a primary school teacher to go through a class of 4-year olds and predict with frightening accuracy whether they’ll make it to university or not.

I want Britain to be thoughtful and progressive, not reactionary and judgemental. I want Britain to encourage debate and respect a variety of views as possibly having something to add to progress, not to label a person as unacceptable because they may approach an issue from an unusual perspective, and then not listen to them.
Spreading power
In a speech delivered on Monday night at the Presidential Palace in Chile, James Purnell argued that spreading power – away from overbearing bureaucracies and unfair markets – can be a great cause for the centre-left, by giving people power over their destiny.

What most makes me angry about the way Britain is now? That people moan about the labour government. How can they vote for a party who slags of the health service on Fox News? Do they not remember what it was like without the minimum wage? It saddens me how short people’s memories are.
An internationalist agenda for the Left
“There is no better test of whether the left can renew than whether it can discover an international vision”.’ Hugh Roberts, Visiting Fellow at the LSE, in the Centre for the Study of Global Governance argues that the Left must assert its values globally as well as locally if it is to recapture its idealism and radicalism.

Being on the right is to either continue or worsen the present situation. It stands for atomism, for dog-eat-dog aggression to your fellow human beings, and the privileging of the self over others. The left stands for the opposite.
The Left’s response to ‘Progressive Tories’
George Osborne says it’s now the Conservatives who are carrying the torch for progressive politics. Graeme Cooke, Head of the Open Left project, argues that rather than dismiss this claim out of hand, the Left should welcome the Tory conversion while seriously scrutinising their progressive credentials.

As women who bring up children, or carers of elderly relatives, want to return to work, employers need to widen their vision to evaluate skills developed in time spent out of the workforce, and deliver parity of esteem to end the Gender Pay Gap. As a society, we need to value the contribution of migrants and agency workers and ensure that differently abled people have a level playing field to participate in life and work.

How would I describe the sort of society I want Britain to be? One that takes full advantage of its multi-cultural nature. A society that has time to reflect and consider, one that values employment above profit.
